DB Design Engineer Job Location: Chennai Job Summary: The Application Database Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the database systems used in software applications. This role requires a strong understanding of database concepts, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and functionality of the application's database. Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Design & develop the application's database architecture, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and manipulation. Define database schemas, tables, relationships, and data integrity constraints. 2. Create & maintain logical and physical data models to represent the structure and relationships of the application's data. Optimize the data models for performance, scalability, and flexibility. 3. Analyze & optimize database queries to improve performance and response times. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through index creation, query tuning, and other optimization techniques. 4. Implement appropriate security measures to protect the application's database, including user authentication, access controls, and data encryption. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry best practices. 5. Monitor & maintain the health and performance of the application's database systems. Perform routine database maintenance tasks, such as backups, recovery, and capacity planning. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues. 6. Work closely with software developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to understand the application requirements and ensure that the database design aligns with the overall application architecture. Collaborate on data-related decisions and provide guidance on database design best practices. 7. Create & maintain comprehensive documentation of the database architecture, data models, and database-related processes. Keep documentation up to date with any changes or enhancements. 8. Stay up to date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices. Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of the application's database systems. Qualifications and Skills: 1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 2. Proven experience as a database designer or database administrator, with a strong understanding of database design principles and best practices. 3. Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational database management systems (Oracle, MS-SQL, Aurora, PostgreSQL). 4. Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and understanding of when to use different types of databases. 5. Knowledge of database optimization techniques, such as query tuning, indexing, and performance monitoring. 6. Experience with database security concepts and implementation. 7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues. 8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross- functional teams. 9. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. 10. Familiarity with agile development methodologies is a plus. 11. Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are advantageous.
