Description:
Role : PostgreSQL Admin Your Responsibilities :- Deployment, Operational Management and Monitoring for Postgres database instances (self-hosted or DBaaS).- Conduct capacity planning exercises for database instances to ensure optimal resource allocation.- Monitor index efficiency and perform maintenance tasks to optimize database performance.- Ensure round-the-clock monitoring of database instances to promptly address any issues or anomalies.- Perform table maintenance tasks and optimize vacuum settings to improve database performance.- Configure real-time alerting systems to promptly notify relevant stakeholders of critical issues.- Customize alert thresholds as per specific requirements to ensure relevant and timely notifications.- Proactively attend alerted issues and manage escalations if required to minimize downtime.- Provide guidance on query optimization techniques to enhance database performance.- Implement table partitioning strategies to improve manageability and performance.- Configure user/group security settings and maintain security best practices to safeguard database assets.- Evaluate database releases and recommend paths for upgrading and patching to ensure system stability and security.- Apply database and tools version upgrades and patches to keep systems up to date.- Set up point-in-time recovery mechanisms as needed to enable data recovery in case of emergencies.- Provide guidance and implement disaster recovery planning to minimize data loss and downtime in the event of disasters.- Verify production backups regularly to ensure data integrity, data availability and the fitness of the data recovery processes.- Establish and maintain development/test environments aligned with production environments to support testing and development activities.- Maintain high availability architecture, including one or more read-replicas, to ensure uninterrupted access to critical data.- Advise on read scalability and load balancing strategies to optimize performance and resource utilization.- Conduct status meetings and generate reports on ongoing environment health and activities on a weekly basis to keep stakeholders informed.- Perform trend analysis on capacity/space, load, and lag on a monthly basis to identify patterns and potential issues.- Conduct quarterly strategic reviews on trends, uptime, business alignment, and opportunities for continuous improvement.- Conduct comprehensive performance optimization activities, including proactive health scans and annual database tune-ups, to enhance system performance.- Design and perform database parameter tuning both initially and on an ongoing basis to optimize system performance.Essential Requirements :- Proven experience as a Database Administrator with expertise in PostgreSQL.- In-depth knowledge of database management and optimization techniques.- Familiarity with monitoring and management tools such as EDB Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM).- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Desirable Requirements :- Relevant PostgreSQL certifications (From EDB or any other renowned institution) are a plus.
