Description:
Responsibilities :- Manage and administer mainframe storage systems and infrastructure, including DASD, tape libraries, and virtual tape solutions.- Monitor storage performance, capacity, and availability, and implement proactive measures to optimize resource utilization and ensure system reliability.- Configure and maintain storage subsystems, volumes, and datasets according to established standards and best practices.- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and data migrations to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.- Collaborate with system programmers, database administrators, and application teams to provision storage resources and support business requirements.- Troubleshoot storage-related issues, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and performance degradation.- Evaluate and implement storage management tools and utilities to automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.- Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and runbooks for storage administration tasks and processes.- Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in mainframe storage management, and recommend enhancements and improvements as needed.Requirements :- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.- Proven experience as a mainframe storage administrator or similar role, with at least 5 years of experience in managing mainframe storage environments.- In-depth knowledge of mainframe storage technologies and subsystems, including DASD, tape drives, virtual tape systems, and storage networking protocols.- Experience with mainframe storage management tools and utilities such as DFSMS, IBM Tape Management System (TMS), and Virtual Tape Server (VTS).- Familiarity with backup and recovery processes, techniques, and tools for mainframe environments, including IBM DFSMSdss and third-party solutions.- Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve storage-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and data corruption.- Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the ability to create clear and comprehensive documentation and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.Skills :- Mainframe Storage Systems : Proficiency in administering mainframe storage systems, including DASD, tape libraries, and virtual tape solutions.- Storage Management Tools : Experience with mainframe storage management tools and utilities such as DFSMS, IBM Tape Management System (TMS), and Virtual Tape Server (VTS).- Backup and Recovery : Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, techniques, and tools for mainframe environments, including IBM DFSMSdss and third-party solutions.- Storage Networking : Familiarity with storage networking concepts, protocols, and technologies such as FICON, ESCON, and Fibre Channel.Preferred :- Certification in mainframe storage administration or related technologies (e.g. IBM Certified Storage Administrator).- Experience with automation tools and scripting languages for automating storage administration tasks.- Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in mainframe storage management, such as cloud storage integration and software-defined storage solutions.
