Job Description: Senior Data EngineerLocation: Hyderabad, Chennai, BangaloreExperience: 4 to 10 YearsPrimary Skills:- Hadoop- Spark (Mandatory)- ScalaSecondary Skills:- Python- SQLRole Summary/Purpose:The Senior Data Engineer will join our dynamic scrum teams to perform functional and system development for Hadoop applications as part of our Enterprise Data Lake initiative. This high-visibility, fast-paced project will integrate data from both internal and external sources, providing analytical insights and integration with critical systems.Essential Responsibilities:- Agile Development: Participate actively in the agile development process, contributing to the planning, design, and implementation phases.- Specifications Development: Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications for the commercial platform.- Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of applications and adherence to performance requirements through rigorous testing and validation.- Project Estimates and Planning: Assist in creating project estimates and plans, and represent the engineering team in project meetings and solution discussions.- Code Review: Participate in the code review process to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to achieve business results in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment.- Mentorship: Mentor junior data engineers and influence peers and management.- Analytic Applications Development: Pair up with data engineers to develop cutting-edge analytic applications leveraging AWS, Big Data technologies such as Kafka, PySpark/Spark (mandatory), Hadoop, shell scripting, and SQL.- Additional Duties: Perform other duties and projects as assigned.Qualifications/Requirements:- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics).- Experience: Minimum of 9 years of experience, including at least 5 years working with and developing big data solutions.- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with AWS, shell scripting, complex SQL queries, Hadoop commands, Kafka, Spark, and Git.- Real-Time Systems: Experience with real-time data streaming systems.- Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Scala, Java, or Python.- Reusable Code: Ability to write abstracted, reusable code components.Desired Characteristics:- Business Acumen: Strong understanding of business processes and practices.- Critical Thinking and Creativity: Ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex problems.- Performance Tuning: Experience in performance tuning of big data applications.- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies quickly and effectively.- Communication Skills: Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams, including internal and external technical staff, business analysts, software support, and operations staff.- Broad Understanding: Strong business acumen, including a broad understanding of Synchrony Financial business processes and practices.
